Widely known as one of the leaders of biosecurity in New Zealand, Dr John Hellstrom’s involvement in the industry spans almost half a century. The GIA Secretariat caught up with him following the conclusion of his role as chair of the GIA interim FMD Council, to talk about the changes he's seen during his career, and get his views on New Zealand's biosecurity system. Australian plant biosecurity RD&E forum looks cross-sectoral priorities
The GIA Secretariat recently supported Gisele Irvine to attend and represent GIA partners at the Plant Biosecurity Research Development & Extension (RD&E) Priorities Forum, held in Victoria, Australia. The two-day event, run by Plant Health Australia (PHA), brought together around 90 participants to identify the top cross-sectoral priorities for research in Australia.

Industry farewells NZ Wine Growers Sustainability GM, Philip Manson
After almost two decades as NZ Wine Growers Sustainability General Manager, Philip leaves the business this month, and also steps down as chairman of the interim Fruit Fly Council where he led the development of GIA’s first operational agreement. The GIA Secretariat caught up with Philip before his departure. Read more

Kiwiberry growers join GIA biosecurity partnership
The kiwiberry industry is the latest industry group to join the Government Industry Agreement (GIA) biosecurity partnership. They will be represented by Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH), the first industry group to sign the GIA Deed in May 2014. Read more
