A new report from MPI, Biosecurity Risk Management of Entry Pathways for Pasture Pests, describes how MPI manages the potential pathways, or means of entry into New Zealand, of pasture pests. It provides a useful description of NZ’s biosecurity system and how biosecurity risks are managed in the following pathways:

  • Nursery stock
  • Cut flowers/ foliage
  • Seed for sowing
  • Grain / seed for consumption, feed or processing
  • Processed plain material, including growing media
  • Inorganic risk materials
  • Vehicles and machinery
  • Sea and air containers
  • Bulk inorganic fertiliser

The report was released alongside Pastoral Pests Hazard Identification, a report that presents the findings of a biosecurity hazard identification process undertaken for MPI and NZ's pastoral sector.
