The consultation phase on the future direction of New Zealand's biosecurity system - Biosecurity 2025 - is underway.

MPI is holding public meetings and hui in Whangarei, Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson, and Christchurch over the next two weeks. Public submissions close 9 September.

This is an important opportunity for all participants in New Zealand’s biosecurity system, particularly GIA Signatories, to influence New Zealand’s biosecurity strategy and to reinforce the collective strength of the GIA partnership.

It's about partnership. Everyone has a role to play in keeping New Zealand free from harmful pests and diseases – our environment, our lifestyles, our livelihoods, and the growth of our nation depend on it.

We strongly encourage you to get to one of the meetings if you can and to encourage your members to get along too. It’s a great opportunity for them to find out more and to have a say, adding weight to GIA members’ submissions.

MPI wants to know what you think works, what doesn't and what might. They are particularly interested in hearing what other ‘First Steps’ might be taken to deliver something tangible under each of the five proposed ‘Strategic Directions’ for biosecurity.

Your feedback and submissions will inform the development of the direction statement that will guide our biosecurity system over the next ten years.
